31/12/2009 - Sri Lanka – Fr Nicholas Lakshman dies in a road accident

(ANS – Colombo) – Fr Nicholas Lakshman SDB, known as  Nethasinghe, died on 30th December at a hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka, following a road accident on 20 December near Negombo He was 54.

his vehicle crashed into another coming in the opposite direction Fr. Nicholas was hospitalised with several serious internal and external injuries and underwent several operations.

Fr. Nicholas Lakshman was currently the Vicar to the Superior of the Vice Province, the Rector of the aspirantate of Dankotuwa and the Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family.

He was born in 1955 at Pamungana town near the Capital, Colombo. He made his first profession in Kotagiri, India in 1980 and was ordained a priest in 1990

As a priest he worked in several capacities in Negombo, Palliayawatte, Kandy, Uswetakeiyawa and Arabegama. His funeral is scheduled to be held in Dankotuwa on 2nd January 2010.
