The day after his return from Argentina, Fr Pascual Chávez left again, this time for the Congo. Having arrived in the evening of 5 February at the “Agostinho Neto” airport in Pointe Noire, he was warmly welcomed by a group of Salesians, Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and lay people.
At the “Saint John Bosco” parish in the “Tie-Tie” district of Pointe Noire, over 600 people from the parish welcomed the IX successor of Don Bosco in a special ceremony. At the entrance to the church a girl gave Fr Chávez a bunch of flowers and then Fr Miguel Olaverri, parish priest and Rector of the community gave a address of welcome.
Before the end of the day Fr Chávez gave the people his message in the Good Night: “Don Bosco’s dream about Argentina and Africa has today come true. The development of the Salesian charism in Africa must go hand in hand with holiness.”
During the following days the Rector Major had a series of meetings and festive celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Pointe Noire Salesian centre.
