| RMG – 150 years since the first Salesian “Yes” |
| 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Salesian Congregation |
A video-message which the successor of Don Bosco wants to be shared before the celebration of the renewal of Profession. “It is one way of being present and feeling close, at such an important and significant moment for all of us,” Fr Chávez told ANS.
The video, made through collaboration between the Social Communication Department and Missioni Don Bosco in Turin, draws its inspiration from the Rector Major’s own Circular Letter, “He summoned those He wanted and they came to Him” (AGC 404), sent last June.
There has been valuable collaboration from the youngsters and young people from the Valdocco Oratory Youth Centre, from the “L’Alfa e L’Omega DE Joanne Bosco” theatre company and from those responsible for Don Bosco’s rooms.
A 24 minute video which re-constructs what happened on those days in December 1859 at Valdocco and recalls the central points of Salesian identity: religious consecration, fidelity to the Constitutions, a special love for the young and openness to the Salesian Family. “A history we need to remember and to tell to our young people, involving them in our life,” as Fr Chávez says in the video.
For the whole Salesian Family and especially for Salesians, 2009 has been a “year of grace,” because, as the Rector Major Fr Pascual Chávez Villanueva points out, it has involved a serious spiritual and pastoral journey. Having begun on 31 January 2009, it will reach its culmination on 18 December.
