| Philippines – The casket has arrived: “Viva Don Bosco!” |
During the night and early morning of Sunday the Provincial of South Philippines Fr George Militante, with other Salesians and parishioners had gone to Bato to receive the casket from the community of the “St. Louis School” in Dumaguete. From there a long motorcade brought the saint of youth to the Cebu parish.
Along the way it was venerated by the people and civil authorities. The Mayor of Argao, Edsel Galeos, a Salesian past-pupil, welcomed the casket with tears in his eyes and spoke of Don Bosco as his friend, mentor and guide. Hundreds of people in Lawa-an “St. Joseph’s” parish of Tabunok went onto the streets waving flags as it passed singing in honour of Don Bosco.
Just before the casket arrived at the “Our Lady of Lourdes” church, with throngs of people and parishioners lining both sides of the street to the dance of the sinulog and the hymn "St. John Bosco our Loving Father" (Don Bosco ritorna), was played by the brass band of St. Louis School, Don Bosco Dumaguete.
A more than capacity crowd of worshippers attended the Mass. And then the public veneration followed with people from all walks of life venerating , imploring, interceding Don Bosco for help in their needs... “What a profound manifestation of faith..... I am certain that for everyone who attended with the proper dispositions, it was a very beautiful and spiritually enriching experience,” was the comment of Fr Militante.
Yesterday, Monday 13, Don Bosco’s casket was transferred to the Don Bosco Technology Centre in Labangon, where it will remain until Friday.
