Emma Ciccarelli, a Salesian-Cooperator for the last 20 years, married with 4 children with a degree in Political Science and a family guidance counsellor, grew up in a parish in Ostia, in the Province of Rome, where there was a small community of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. Here joining in the activities organised by the Sisters from being a girl she got to know Don Bosco.
From being a teenager she was a leader in the Oratory, teaching catechism and in charge of youth groups, and later of university students. She has always believed in the holistic approach of Don Bosco and his system of education trying to put them into practice wherever she had been.
At 26 years of age she decided to make Salesian spirituality more an integral part of her life and began preparing to become a Salesian-Cooperator. Now, for a number of years she has been the Coordinator of the “Laura Vicuña” Cooperators’ Centre in Ostia Lido.
Elected to the Provincial Council of the Cooperators in 1999 she has been responsible for the area of the family becoming involved in a number of projects at Provincial and National level. In 2002 she was elected Provincial Coordinator of the Salesians- Cooperators in Lazio. In 2009 she was asked to represent the Association of the Salesians-Cooperators of Lazio in the Forum of Family Associations in Lazio.
Begun in 1998 the Forum of Family Associations in Lazio now has 50 Associations which are concerned with the family in the Lazio Region, with the intention of encouraging families to become involved in political and institutional issues.
The proposed aims of the Forum of Family Associations in Lazio are: the promotion and the safeguarding of the values and rights of the family as “the natural society founded on matrimony”; the promotion and active and responsible participation of the family in cultural, social and political life, in the initiatives of human promotion and service to individuals especially through forms of association and the promotion of adequate family policies which safeguard and support the roles of the family and its rights, inspired by the principles indicated in the “Rights of the Family Charter” issued by the Pontifical Council for the Family in 1983 which is a constitutive element of the present Statutes.
