It was part of the “Formation of the Young in citizenship and concern for others” Project, conducted by the Department for Formal Education of the Salesians in Chile, and financed by the Charity Committee for the Third World of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI), and was led by members of the Department for Formal Education: the Executive Secretary Carlos Guíñez, Jorge Baeza and Marcelo González SDB who explained the general idea to the teachers present.
The teachers, with a common interest in social teaching, came from the “José Miguel Infante” Sixth Form College, the Salesian Educational Centre in Alameda, the “El Patrocinio San José” Institute, the “Camilo Ortúzar Montt” Sixth Form College and the “Manuel Arriarán Barros” Sixth Form College. They all teach in the 5 areas of the curriculum in which the lessons in responsible citizenship will be located: social sciences, languages, religion, physical education and free-time activities. They will be assisted by staff from the “Silva Henriquez” Catholic University (UCSH) specialists Educational Science, Psychology, Philosophy and Sociology.
Work on the programming will continue until the end of June and include issues such as the situation of young people in Chile, elements of the Social Teaching of the Church the school curriculum in Chile.
In the individual centres the new courses will begin with workshops in July.
