|Paraguay – Synergy between the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Salesians|
(ANS – Ypacarai) – The first Continental Congress of young pastpupils and Salesian pastpupils was held in a joyful and friendly atmosphere with 80 young men and women coming from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay and Paraguay, at Ypacarai-Paraguay between 7 and 10 October.
The subjects considered at the meeting were “Come and See” in a talk by Sr Maritza Ortiz, Confederal Delegate for Salesian female past-pupils; “Personal plan of life”, with Fr Pablino González, Vice Provincial of the Salesians in Paraguay; “Identity and mission of the Past Pupils in the American context”, by the past pupil María Gabriela Pérez Martignano and “Young people in America in the light of the Document of Aparecida”, presented by Ligia Inés Mejía, also a past pupil.
Each talk was followed by work in groups, discussions and practical proposals. In addition, with each talk there was also a liturgical activity expressing the creativity of the organising groups and the devotion of the participants.
There was great enthusiasm during the pilgrimage to Caacupé, to the “Virgencita Serrana”, as the young people offered the work carried out at the meeting, and prayed for the needs of all the countries represented by the self-styled: “Salesian Youth, Heralds of the dawn.”
During the concluding Mass Fr Natale Vitali, Regional Councillor for America South Cone invited the young people to respond to Christ’s call and become involved in society and in the Church, always looking to the future with hope.
Also taking part with their encouragement and accompaniment were: Sr María Luisa Miranda, General Councill of the FMA for the Salesian Family; Mrs Carolina Fiorica, Confederal President of the female Salesian Past Pupils; Sr. Venancia González, FMA Provincial of Paraguay; Mrs Antonia Olmedo de Fretes and Sr María del Carmen Sarmiento, respectively President and Delegate of the Federation.
Also present were the Confederal Councillor for the South Cone Sr Marianela Alcayaga; Sandra Carbonelli, for Brazil; and Rosa Restrepo, for Bolivia.
