(ANS – Madrid) – The paper “ABC”, in its weekly supplement “Alfa y Omega” on 26 January spoke about the work of “Boscovisión” and its series “Trotamundos”. Boscovisión is a Spanish Salesian group engaged in the production of audiovisual material useful for education and evangelisation. Under the guidance of Fr Angelo J. Fernandez, it addresses the world of youth.
“Alfa y Omega” describes the work of the Salesians, who in addition to their Institutes, have a production company called “Boscovisión”, producing short films on subjects related to the lives of the young. Some of these are part of the series “Trotamundos”, which, launched in 2000, has already reached 40 episodes. Fr Fernández, Director of Boscovisión, has chosen the topics after consulting young people from various schools about what they were concerned about.
Fr Fernández describes the filming process: “The subjects are questions connected with families and friends. With the initial idea I produce a script and then 15 youngsters volunteers put it into their own language”. The final script is then produced. In summer-time three or four episodes of “Trotamundos” are shot, while during the year other shorts are made.
For pedagogical reasons the main characters in the films are always young people. Alfa y Omega writes: “Pupils from schools – Salesians and others - are involved but also adults”. Ana Suarez, 13 years of age lives in Orense and for the last three years has been working with Boscovisión. All the story lines have a Christian basis, and in some of them God has a major role.
The products of Boscovisión have also had international recognition, and in that regard the III place at the Pre-festival of Sundance Independent Amateur Cinema at Salt Lake City may be mentioned.
