(ANS – East Boroko) – Some days ago at the Salesian “Don Bosco Technological Institute” in East Boroko, in Papua New Guinea, there was a meeting dedicated to the Virgin Mary in which about 2000 young people took part.

The day began with Mass at which Bishop Francesco Panfilo SDB, Bishop of Alotau and President of the Bishops’ Conference of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Isles presided. Among other Salesian priests present was Fr Rafael Galve, Delegate for Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Isles.

Taking part in the meeting were students from the various Catholic schools in the area including those from “Don Bosco Technological Institute” and “Don Bosco Technical School”. Thanks to the various activities, including games and a variety of artistic expressions the young people were able to get to know Mary better.

In the evening there was a prayer vigil which continued throughout the night, in which about 300 young people took part. The celebration, organised separately from the meeting itself, gave the young people an opportunity to pray and reflect on some aspects of Marian spirituality.

A good number of Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians also took part as guides in the two events.
