The event was promoted and organised by the Salesians and by the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), in conjunction with the Youth Ministry organisation, the priests and to youth groups in the parishes of the city.
The purpose of the event was to “gather together the young people from the parishes to publicly proclaim the Catholic, youth and Salesian point of view in favour of a culture which promotes human and Christian values” and enabled young Salesians to share their own spirituality with other youth groups, as well as giving publicity to their commitment to live their faith by following Christ.
The timing of the demonstration coincided with the liturgical celebration of the feast Don Bosco; and the march which began in the afternoon with a prayer, concluded the novena in honour of the saint of youth.
The procession of Catholic young people from Los Mochis, led by an image of Don Bosco, was a clear, decided and enthusiastic declaration regarding 5 topics: life, peace, the family, joy, values: of solidarity, respect, justice and truth.
The day ended with a message addressed to the young by Fr René Castro, parish priest of the Sanctuary of Guadalupe – the parish to which the Don Bosco Oratory belongs – and the organisers including Fr Carlos Montoya, Rector of the Salesian house and Fr Alejandro González, director of the Oratory.
The event well organised by young people from the Salesian centre brought together young people from most of the parishes in the city at a time of particular tension on account of a number of killings in recent days. Last Sunday there was a similar event organised by a local organisation and aimed at all the people. The march organised by the SYM was specially significant because it was evidently youthful and Catholic, and attracted considerable coverage in the local media.
