(ANS – Mexico City) – Between 26 and 28 February at the   “Casa del Hombre Nuevo” Retreat House in Mexico City there was Bosco Camp 2010, run by the Youth Ministry Team of the Mexico-Mexico Province (MEM) and organised by Fr Julián Daniel García Reynoso, Delegate for Youth Ministry.

Over 600 boys and girls took part from all around the country (Mexico City, Estado de Messico, Morelia, San Juan Bosco Oratory Puebla, the Institute of  Tehuacan, Querétaro,  Tlaxcala, Guadalajara…) coordinated by about 70 young members of the Leaders of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), with the Salesian post-novices, those on practical training and the students of theology responsible for the leadership, the liturgy, the theatre and the prayer.  Supporting them were also the Salesians-  Cooperators and some priests from MEM and from the Mexico-Guadalajara Province (MEG).

The purpose of the gathering, in addition to their becoming familiar with Salesian spirituality, was to help the youngsters to meet God in a natural way through reflection, camp-life together, and in sharing their experience of life, faith and hope. To this end, the topic examined was: “The Preventive System and Human Rights starting from the Gospel for young people today.” Before the Camp started the Salesian Leaders were encouraged to be a reflection of Christ and in their behaviour to mirror his “love.”

Fr Miguel Agustín Aguilar, the Provincial of MEM, attended the events on the Saturday 27 February and encouraged the youngsters to put the best of themselves into the Bosco Camp experience. They responded very well to the opportunity for games, listening to the Word of God, and the group work. During the showing of the film “Saint John Bosco” they were also invited to join in the pilgrimage of the casket of the saint of youth which will arrive in Mexico on 4 August 2010, and to make use of the media of Facebook, Twitter and the site shortly to be opened www.donbosco.mx to keep themselves uptodate on its progress. They were also invited to take part with Mexican SYM in World Youth Day to be held in Madrid in 2011.

During the homily at the concluding Mass, several of the young people spoke about their experience of the way their lives had been changed by being involved in a commitment to human rights from the Salesian and Church perspective. Fr Daniel García SDB who presided at the Mass invited the young people to be the fire which is the  light Christ, to “bring the young to Christ” through the witness of their lives as young people.

Also taking part in the Camp was Roberto Nuno, National Representative of the Mexican Bishops’ Youth Ministry Organisation, who congratulated the youngsters and expressed his hope that similar events might be repeated in the future. On his part Fr
Alfonso Burciaga Saucedo SDB in charge of the Mission Office encouraged the youngsters to continue their experience of service and collaboration by taking part in Salesian missionary voluntary service.
