The attention which the UPS gives to the university education of the young has the following main objectives: to provide intra-disciplinary and extra-curricular opportunities for learning; to foster the identity of the university student as such; to deal with subjects and issues according to the general “method” of the University, i.e. that of the Salesian Preventive System; to present the person of Don Bosco and the Strenna of the Rector Major (“In imitation of Don Rua, to bring Jesus to the young”); to enable the students of the various faculties to get to known each other and to form friendships; to focus attention on the current youth scene and on the challenges this presents to the world of education and to university culture.
The programme for the Day: the Rector, Fr Carlo Nanni, will open proceedings with his greetings and a short introduction, which will be followed by the showing of a short film about young people produced by Prof. Franco Lever, from Faculty for Social Communication. Afterwards four former students of the University will speak about their experiences as students and in their chosen professions; Prof. Anna Oliverio Ferraris will give a talk about “Young people today. Identity and plan of life. What can the University do?” at the end of which students and staff will be able to ask her questions.
To celebrate the Feast of Saint John Bosco, at 12.00 in the church of the University, Fr Pascual Chávez, Rector Major of the Salesians and Grand Chancellor of the UPS, will preside at Mass in honour of Don Bosco, organised by the University Chaplaincy Team.
