(ANS – Sutri) –  On Saturday 6 March, at  17.00, Cardinal Raffaele Farina, Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church presided at a solemn Mass in memory of Venerable Bishop Luigi Olivares SDB who was Bishop of Sutri and Nepi between 1916 and 1943.

His reputation for holiness is still alive today in his diocese which is now that of Civita Castellana. Cardinal Farina celebrated the Mass in the Co-Cathedral of Sutri in the presence of civil and military authorities and a large number of the ordinary faithful.

Among those also present were Mons. Walter Brandmuller, President emeritus of the Pontifical Committee of Historical Sciences, Fr Cosimo Semeraro, Secretary of the same Committee, and a number of local parish priests. After the Mass the Postulator General, Fr Enrico dal Covolo, gave the commemorative address on Bishop Olivares (Corbetta, 1873 - Pordenone, 1943).

At the end of the ceremony the bishop of the diocese, Bishop Romano Rossi, spoke and gave his blessing. For the occasion, the parish priest of Sutri, Mons. Luca Gottardi, put on display the bishop’s mozzetta, which the Venerable usually wore and which had recently been returned to the parish archives.
