Among those benefitting from the programme in which the Presidential Agency for Social Action and International Cooperation as well as the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare are also involved, is the Don Bosco Work Preparation Centre in Condoto. The humanitarian assistance programme begun in 2008 and continuing in 2010 is a response to the forced displacement of people and other problems caused by the violence in that area including that of trying to find food.
The food distributed free in proportion to the need as estimated by the Organisation is an attempt to improve the health and nutrition, but also the education of the refugees and the weakest people.
These projects connecting food distribution and training are seen as a key element in the socio-economic recovery, social integration, personal and family development of the people struggling to feed themselves.
The programme is also a useful means of helping the poorest people to have access to basic literacy and work-training oppportunities, and at the same time to encourage the provision of permanent accommodation with basic water supplies and the possibility of employment projects.
