(ANS – Rome) – Today Tuesday 27 July the Rector Major Fr Pascual Chávez, has appointed  Fr Marek Adam Chrzan as the new General Councillor for the North Europe Region. Fr Chrzan succeeds Fr Stefan Turansky, whose resignation on health grounds the Rector Major accepted on 21 July.

Fr Chrzan was born at Katowice on 1 April 1964 and began his novitiate in 1984, at the Salesian house in Kopiec; he made his perpetual vows on 20 August 1991 and was ordained priest on 3 July 1993 at Krakow.

Between 1994 and 1997 he was Prefect of Studies in the  community of the Theologate in Krakow, and in 2001, he became Rector of the Provincial House in the same city. In the “Saint Hyacith” Province of Poland-Krakow (PLS) he was Provincial Councillor between  2000 and 2001 and then Vice Provincial between  2001 and 2004. On 17 August 2006 the Rector Major appointed him Provincial of PLS.

Between 1 and 12 October 2007 Fr Chrzan was part of the Precapitular Commission for the 26th General Chapter. His appointment as General Councillor for North Europe was positively influenced by the consultation among the Provincials and Delegates in the Region, by his work as Provincial of Krakow and his work in the context of the Project for Europe (PE): Fr Chrzan, in fact, was already a member of the PE Commission as the Provincial representative for North Europe.

Fr Chrzan had been called to the General Council meeting in plenary session. To the question whether he was ready to accept the role of General Councillor he replied: “I see in this nomination by the Rector Major a sign of God’s will. I accept and in my role I entrust myself to the Virgin Mary.”
