(ANS – San Paolo) – The Salesians Fr Ronaldo Zacharias and Fr Luiz Alves, from the “Mary Help of Christians” Province of Brazil-San Paolo, have been appointed Secretary and President, respectively of two National organisations for formation in catechetics and moral theologiy.
During the XXXVI session of the Congress of Moral Theology held between 16 and 19 May in the city of San Paolo, Fr Ronaldo Zacharias, Vice Provincial was elected Secretary of the Brasilian Society of Moral Theology (SBTM). It is the third time that he has been elected to this position in the SBTM, a body which brings together teachers of Moral Theology and Theological Ethics in the whole of Brazil and which each year holds a Congress, open also on some occasions, to other countries of Latin America.
In addition on 9 June the feast day of Blessed José de Anchieta, apostle of Brazil, Fr Luiz Alves di Lima was elected the first President of the recently established “Brazilian Society of Catechists,” an organisation bringing together people academically and pastorally qualified in the field of catechetics and initiation in Christian Life and providing a free exchange of research and pastoral experiences in order to promote further development in this area.
Fr Alves de Lima, a lecturer in the Pius XI Institute in San Paulo, has for six years already been President of the Society of American Catechists (SCALA), and has filled various roles in organisations for catechetics both in Brazil and abroad.
