(ANS – Santiago) – For the Bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco (1815-2015), a new collection of songs dedicated to the Saint of Youth is being prepared by Fr Edward Meana, an Argentinian Salesian priest considered one of the best songwriters and representatives of Catholic music in the Americas. This new musical project involves the collaboration of Caetera Tolle.

After several years it fulfils the desire of Fr Eduardo Meana and Caetera Tolle to work together. The new disc of unpublished songs by the Argentinian songwriter will be produced in Chile.

At the end of July, while he was in Chile to preach retreats for the post-novices and those in practical training, Fr Meana met Salesian Brother Jorge Moraga, with whom he is working on the first steps in the pre-production of the disc.

Br Jorge Moraga pointed out that the project has two objectives: presenting Salesian spirituality in musical form for the Bicentenary of Don Bosco, and starting a series of musical projects to build up collaboration between Salesians and Salesian composers in South America.

From his teenage years, Fr Eduardo Meana has been communicating his personal faith through songs. ‘I am no singer, but I am someone who lives among young people. I don’t write to order or under obligation; I always begin from some faith situation’, says the Salesian priest.

His songs have been used in many circumstances: youth celebrations, Eucharists and other events in South America and, in Portuguese translation, in Angola. Some of his songs have inspired themes for pastoral ministry in Argentina or Latin America at a national level. In addition, Fr Meana has taken part in various national and international meetings.
