Spain - Salesian Institute recognised as the best school for sports promotion
(ANS – Córdoba: 21 February 2007) - On 19 February the Salesian Institute in Córdoba received a prize as the best school for sports promotion. It was presented during the VII Sports Gala organised by the “Onda Cero” Radio Station and held at the Hotel Occidental in Córdoba. There were a variety of sports awards presented including that to the“Unicaja” Sporting Club in Malaga current ACB Basketball Champions, and recognised as the best Sports Club, and that to the skier María José Rienda, Runner up in the World Giant Slalom, as the best Spanish Sports champion of 2006. The “St Francis of Sales” Salesian Institute in Córdoba received the award for the best school in the promotion of sport. It was received on behalf of the Salesian Institute by Fr Andrés González, the Rector, Fr Javier Guil, School Chaplain and the one in charge of the Youth Centre, and some teachers and coaches of the various disciplines: Kiko Pastor, José Antonio Santaella and Antonio Alonso. The citation referred to the commitment always shown by the school to the education of the young through sport. In addition, recently the Salesian School has distinguished itself in the Spanish football championships in the junior category and has received sports awards from a variety of local and regional authorities. In the course of the evening the “ARS Club” from Palma del Río, a handball team founded in 1973 by the Salesian Institute, also received an award.
