(ANS – Madrid: 21 February 2007) - The Salesian Province of Madrid and the “St Luisa de Marillac” Province of the Daughters of Charity have signed an agreement of collaboration for a project to help young immigrants. The agreement signed on 9 February by Sr. Mari Cruz Gutiérrez and Fr Luis Manuel Moral, Superiors of the Daughters of Charity and of the Salesians, is an expression of the desire by the two Congregations to work together responding to the needs of the young people, many of them minors without any family. It follows discussions which began some months ago when the Daughters of Charity approached the Salesians with their wilingness to collaborate in this area. For the project the Daughters of Charity have made available premises in the centre of Madrid, near the “Puerta del Sol”, where there are a large number of immigrants. The Salesian Provincial Council considered the idea at several meetings and responded with enthusiasm. An Association has been set up by the two Congregations to manage the centre. The next step is to determine the precise nature of the socio-pastoral assistance to be provided, the financial support that can be expected and the personnel to look after the young people and the needs in an area where immigration is such an important factor.
