Brasilia, Brazil – 29 August 2010. The Rector Major took part in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the founding of Brasilia, given the close connection of the city with Don Bosco, the Salesian presence and the erection of the diocese, established on 16 January 1960 and raised to the rank of a Metropolitan Archdiocese on 11 October 1966.

Hong Kong, China – August 2010. On 9 and 10 August Provincial Delegates for Youth Ministry and for Formation in the East Asia - Oceania Region met together to study the third key issue of the 26th General Chapter “The Need for Vocation Ministry.” Among those also present were the General Councillors Fr Cereda, (Formation), Fr Attard, (Youth Ministry) and Fr Wong, (Regional Councillor for East Asia–Oceania).

Nairobi, Kenya – 17 August 2010. Fr Guillermo Basanes, Councillor for the Africa-Madagascar Region, presided at the inauguration ceremony of the centre of studies at the Salesian Theologate “Don Bosco Utume” in the East Africa Province (AFE).

León, Mexico – August 2010. About 60.000 people paid their respects to the casket of Don Bosco during its pilgrimage to the city of León in the Mexico-Guadalajara Province (MEG). The casket visited the National Sanctuary of St John Bosco, the Metropolitan Cathedral in León and the Salesian centre, Don Bosco Boys’ Town.

Milan, Italy – August 2010. André Manoel Caloje, a former street boy and now a student at the Kala Kala Centre in Angola, has been cured from a serious heart condition thanks to an operation at the Inter Campus which provides support for about 350 children from the Salesian centre. At the completion of his convalescence with his teacher he met the Inter Football Team President Massimo Moratti.

Mandaluyong, Philippines – 4 August 2010. A meeting for prayer and formation in one of the basic communities in the parish of Saint Dominic Savio in Mandaluyong. Fr Ramon Antonio Aldana, Rector and parish priest is engaged in the direction of several basic communities.

Marizell, Austria – August 2010. In response to an invitation from the Austrian Bishops to young people, between 13 and 15 August, a group of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) took part in a day together at the Marian Sanctuary of Marizell with the theme “Full Life.

Quetta, Pakistan – August 2010. The Salesians in Quetta and Lahore have been fully engaged in helping the people who were victims of the floods which in August devastated Pakistan. The Salesian Mission Offices and NGO around the world joined in the campaigns organised to support the work undertaken by the Salesians on the spot assisted by young volunteers, students from their schools.
