17/5/2013- India – Outreach Programme in Mumbai Children’s Home
(ANS – Mumbai) – The Don Bosco Balprafulta Project, Andheri, organized an outreach programme from 2 to 10 May 2013, for the Care and Protection of children and juveniles in conflict with the law. These were young people from a government-run Children’s Home in Dongri-Mumbai.

17/5/2013- Kenya – Communications Professionals at work
(ANS – Nairobi) – Two important social communications events took place last week at Nairobi in Kenya: the 12th Seminar for Television Producers of SIGNIS (the World Catholic Association for Communications), and the Catholic Media Festival, organized by the Catholic Media Houses of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. Both events were attended by the staff of the Salesian Audiovisual Centre, Bosco Eastern Africa Multimedia Services (BEAMS).

17/5/2013- Poland – Savionalia 2013: Education is a matter of the heart
(ANS – Krakow) – Between 10 and 12 May, about 1000 young people from Salesian centres all over Poland took part in the 21st annual celebration of “Savionalia”. There were participants also from the Salesian communities of the Latin Rite in Ukraine, which, since September 2012, belong to the province of Krakow (PLS). This event is organized each year by the PLS Province to commemorate St Dominic Savio in festive style. It is held at the house of the students of theology in Krakow.

17/5/2013- Argentina – The hostel of the oratory opens to the homeless
(ANS – Mendoza) – For the second consecutive year the hostel of the oratory "Ceferino Namuncurá" in Mendoza, opens its doors to all adults who live on the street. A little more than a week of its initiation there are already 30 people who go there to sleep and get something hot to start the day.

16/5/2013- Belgium – Don Bosco International at a Conference on the Future of Welfare in Europe
(ANS – Leuven) – On 2 and 3 May, the Secretary of the Salesian NGO “Don Bosco International” (DBI), Mattia Tosato, was invited to Leuven (Belgium) by the Irish Presidency of the European Union and by the European Commission, to take part in a conference on the Future of Welfare in Europe.

16/5/2013- Guatemala – Feast of St Dominic Savio: happiness of heart
(ANS – San Pedro Carchá) – On Sunday 5 May, 1100 Q’eqchi children took part in a day of celebration and festivity in honour of St Dominic Savio. The young people belong to one area of the huge parish of San Pedro Carchá, a parish of 250,000 people. It is the area cared for by Fr Vittorio Castagna, SDB. To allow for maximum participation, events were hold in two different locations.

16/5/2013- Dominican Republic – Salesians recognised by Senate
(ANS – Santo Domingo) – On Tuesday 14 May, in the presence of the President of the Senate of the Dominican Republic, Reynaldo Pared Pérez, a Salesian past pupil, the Salesians of the Antilles Province received recognition for their contribution to the overall development of the children and young people of the country.

(ANS – Piła) – The meeting of the Provincials and Provincial Delegates of Northern Europe was held at Debki in Poland from 10 to 13 May. The host for the occasion was Fr Marek Chmielewski, Provincial of the Piła Province.

15/5/2013- Italy – National Skills Competitions: the proof of manual intelligence
(ANS – Rome) – The National Skills Competitions have been going on in Italy since April. These are contests in professional skills, reserved for young people “with intelligent hands”. Almost 200 young people from Technical Training Centres all over Italy took part.

15/5/2013- Vatican – New Diocese for Bishop Vargas Bastidas
(ANS – Vatican City) – Yesterday, 14 May, Pope Francis named the Salesian Bishop Héctor Eduardo Vargas Bastidas as the new Bishop of Temuco, Chile. Until now, Bishop Vargas Bastidas was Bishop of San Marcos de Arica.
