Chile - Opening of the commemoration of the centenary of the death of Msgr Fagnano in Magallanes

(ANS - Punta Arenas) - On the morning of 1 September, in the presence of the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Francesco Cereda, the commemoration at the San José Salesian High School in Punta Arenas of the 100th anniversary of the death of Msgr José Fagnano, a Salesian missionary who contributed greatly to the civilizing and evangelizing of the Magallanes Region.

The students of the college prepared a musical and artistic presentation for the occasion. In it they remembered Msgr Fagnano as pastor and remembered also the students of the first generation of the San José High School. The prayer was led by the pastoral coordinator, Fr José Chaf.

Among those present at this first commemorative act were Fr Francesco Cereda, Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Stefano Vanoli, Secretary of the General Council, Fr Alberto Lorenzelli, Provincial of Chile, the Provincial Council and Rectors of the various Salesian communities in the country.

Fr Cereda met with the Salesian Rectors to dialogue and reflect on the challenges facing the Salesian Congregation from the 27th General Chapter and to offer guidelines for the reorganization of the province.

In the coming days, Fr Cereda will visit various significant places where the Salesian mission began in Magallanes.
