RMG – Appointment of the New Provincial of East Africa (AFE)

(ANS – Rome) – Last December 15th, during the plenary winter session of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed as new Superior of the Province “St. John Bosco” of East Africa (AFE) Fr. Simon Asira Lipuku, who will perform his task in the six-year period 2017-2023.

Fr. Asira was born on January 27th, 1966, in Shikoti, Kenya, and did his novitiate in Embu in 1987. He pronounced his perpetual vows on May 24th, 1994, in Nairobi, and was ordained a priest in Eshisiru on April 30th, 1996.

He lived in several communities of the AFE Province, both in Kenya, and in Tanzania; he was Economer of the “Boys Town” in Nairobi (2003-2006), Rector of Embu (2006-2011) and since 2015 he is Rector of the Salesian Theologate of Utume.

Many are the tasks he covered in the Province: Fr. Asira in fact was Provincial Councillor, Delegate for Vocational Orientation of the youth in Kenya and Provincial Secretary, while at present he is serving as Delegate for the Salesian Family, Delegate for Formation and Provincial Vicar.

Fr. Asira, who succeeds Fr. Gianni Rolandi, will assume the guidance of the Province on August 5th, 2017, during the Eucharist that will be celebrated at the Sanctuary of Mary Help of Christians in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
