(ANS - San Salvador) - El Salvador's "Universidad Don Bosco", faithful to its spirit of social engagement and professional and productive development, fosters programs for the inclusion of women in the fields of technology and science, such as the Program for Women In Science and Engineering (WISE Program). During the month of June, the University's academic authorities and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) inaugurated the "Science Girl Camp" science camp for 2017.

This campus is an educational space designed to stimulate the study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics courses by the students of the baccalaureate of the Soyapango and Ciudad Delgado school centers.

This is the second time that this initiative enjoys the support of the USAID Project of Higher Education for Economic Growth.

This year, the initiative will change the lives of 30 young women who will be able to expand their horizons of opportunity to develop more competitive environments and improve their quality of life. In addition, a new group of 14 teachers will also receive this training.

There will then be 12 scholarships for the students of the Science Girl Camp to continue studying in technical-scientific university courses, enabling them to have more opportunities and better living conditions.

"It is an opportunity to grow,” said the Rector, Mario Rafael Olmos, SDB, “not only in the field of science, but as a continuity of life, as a continuity of development. We want this experience to mean the discovery of their abilities and possibilities for them."

From 2013 to today, the Science Girl Camp program has already benefited 143 college graduates from Ciudad Delgado, Soyapango, Ilopango and other parts of San Salvador. In 2016 , it also received the "Positive Brand" recognition in the category of "township living."

The USAID Project of Higher Education for Economic Growth covers the years from 2014 to 2019 and has a budget of USD 22 million. Its purpose is to build partnerships between businesses and higher education institutions in El Salvador to create educational programs consistent with the demands of the productive sectors, contribute to the development of such sectors, and to promote economic growth and social development.
