Spain - "Shaping an Interconnected World", without forgetting that education is the solution to problems: G20 in Germany

06 July 2017

(ANS - Madrid) - On 7-8 July, leaders in the world's 20 most developed countries will meet in Hamburg, Germany, on the theme: "Shaping an Interconnected World." The G20 leaders will mainly discuss economic, financial, climate and trade policies, employment and development, along with other key global issues such as migratory flows and refugees, and the fight against terrorism.

Germany currently chairs the G20; the presidency of the group is a factor of fundamental importance because it has the power to emphasize and propose the new issues for discussion on the meeting's agenda.

Argentina will preside over the G20 in 2018. The meeting will serve to reach an agreement on the global career of teachers. The Minister of Education of Argentina, Dr. Esteban Bullrich, said in that regard, "The problem of education is global and can be solved, if we set global standards for teachers."

Education is the beginning of a virtuous circle that means change to and for the person and the community. A boy or girl who goes to school will improve their hygienic and nutritional habits and health, will marry later, will live paternity/maternity in a more responsible manner, and will ensure that their children also go to school, will enjoy a higher quality of life because they will get better work, know their rights and will not allow them to be violated. They will participate in decision-making processes in their community and contribute to the development of their town and country.

The Salesians are responsible for a number of educational initiatives in over 130 countries around the world and provide education to over 1.5 million children and young people globally. Among the many initiatives, one is: "a pencil, which symbolizes commitment to education to change the future of millions of children, and even their countries." This initiated was created the Salesian Missionary Procuratorate of Madrid.

There is no doubt that, to "shape an interconnected world”, education must be guaranteed, and this is the G20's proposal in Argentina, making teachers the determining factor for the level of the educational system. Poverty has educational roots.
