"Caritas" carries on the program of "Solid Pots", an initiative that consists of preparing a dish of food for people in need. In the "María Auxiliadora" parish of Sarria, the activity is known as "El Sancocho Solidario", a typical Venezuelan soup made from various ingredients. This food is prepared every two weeks on a Friday. The Social Ministry team begins to work by cleaning and preparing the ingredients, which are bought with the resources of the parish, the faithful and neighbors; for this reason, the parish community is the protagonist of the "Sancocho Solidarity", where everyone collaborates with what little which they have, as well as by giving their time and dedication.
A year ago Fr Orlando Gramcko, parish priest, told the faithful, "You can bring a potato ...", and people collaborated. That first time, 50 people came for meals; currently there are 150 adults and about 20 children.
The present position of the Venezuelan Church after Maduro's coup has been very clear and coherent with a democratic vision of the country. The Venezuelan Bishops Conference has denounced that for the government, "Everything revolves around politicians, understood as the conquest of power, forgetting the real needs of people."
Salesians have united to support the most needy. On August 25 at a Mass in which many of the needy attended, there was a time to thank God for solidarity. "There are many people who are hungry, and we cannot be indifferent to this reality that strikes us day by day," one of the collaborators said.
