Mexico - "God has called me to be His Pastor and be in intimate union with Him" - Fr Salvador Murgía Villalobos

23 July 2018

(ANS -Mixes) - Fr Salvador Murguía Villalobos, Salesian of Don Bosco, received the nomination of prelate bishop of Mixes from Pope Francis. On Thursday, August 2, the Solemn Episcopal Consecration will take place and will take on a mission with the sole thought: "May Christ and His Good News be announced to all people".

How do you feel about this new mission that God entrusts to you?

The first feeling is of thanksgiving to God. I feel that the appointment is a grace of God, undeserved by me. I do not understand and I wonder: why did You choose me? Only prayer has calmed me. I feel grateful and I want to entrust myself to the Lord and put myself in His hands ... God has called me to be His Shepherd and if God calls me for this it is necessary to be in intimate union with Him and to follow His steps.

How do you receive the Prelature?

We are in a moment of transition with Mons. Héctor Guerrero who is for me a father, a formator and a brother. Certainly the greatest care is to know and be with my flock the Lord entrusts to me. I must also occupy myself, form and accompany my brother priests, male and female religious, diocesan priests. I receive the Prelature with the presence of missionaries who have consecrated their lives and continue to donate it ... And I receive a precious treasure which is the seminary for the formation of vocations.

How has the Salesian presence contributed to the Prelature you will take on?

I am aware that there have been problems of marginalization and others, but what I believe with absolute certainty is that all peoples have great resources, have a beautiful identity, which is rich and must be known, promoted and made to grow. The Salesian presence has been fundamental, above all in the formation of the evangelical conscience, in the education of their lives and in the appropriation of values with the characteristics of Salesian Spirituality that fills their hearts with joy and hope.

Where would you like the Prelature to go?

That Christ and his Good News be announced. That we follow the criteria marking the Church and its Magisterium. That we respect the context, the people and all the peoples of the region and that we value and appreciate the idiosyncrasies.
