The International Labour Office reported that among the most serious problems of the rural sector are low productivity and insufficient wages for workers in the sector. It also noted that "the agro-pastoral sector has the highest incidence of violations of fundamental rights of workers, high frequency of accidents, health problems at work and discrimination". This means that rural villages remain behind in development.
Faced with this reality, the Salesian Institute of Coronel Oviedo is about to launch a project called "Poverty reduction and sustainable improvement in the living conditions of producers and technical training of young people in the Caaguazú Department".
The institute has trained thousands of young people at national level and, at the same time, has always supported the rural communities and the various committees of small producers. Today more than ever, those responsible for the Salesian centre feel engaged in the main axis of economic development and production of the country, which is the formation of young people in rural areas and support for small producers, and hence the Poverty Reduction project.
