(ANS - Panama City) - "We have started again after our wonderful meeting in Krakow, where we celebrated the XXXI World Youth Day," wrote Pope Francis.  "At the end of the WYD in Krakow, I indicated the next goal of our pilgrimage which, with God's help, will take us to Panama in 2019. The Virgin Mary will accompany us along this path, she who all generations shall call blessed." The Youth Ministry Dicastery, in contact with the leaders of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) in Central America, began the work of organizing and planning what will be the feast of all those who share the Salesian charism.

Panama City, Panama - October 2018 - On October 2 in the Basilica of Don Bosco came the relic of Blessed Óscar Arnulfo Romero, one of the patron saints of WYD, with a ceremony presided over by the archbishop of Panama, José Domingo Ulloa. Numerous faithful welcomed the reliquary containing a piece of cloth stained with the blood of the blessed when he was wounded to death, a bust and a replica of his mitre. The relic will remain in Panama until the World Youth Day which will take place in January 2019, and during this period will travel to various parts of the country. On October 14th, Pope Francis will proclaim saints Msgr. Romero and Pope Paul VI and with them two priests, two religious and a layman will also be canonized.

  • Communicating in the network: a language to learn again

It is a fact that digital communication is a challenge for the Church. In the last Synod of Bishops, the network is spoken of as a space of evangelization, like a continent to explore, like a new place to live. The old "information highways" have now become true "constellations of content", with about 1,400 million websites on the network and their number grows exponentially, while every day new virtual communities of meetings and discussions arise according to the different tastes and needs of people.

I am writing to you, my dear friends, just a few hours after having bestowed the missionary cross on a group of ten Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and twenty-five Salesians of Don Bosco who will leave in this 149th missionary expedition. We count the number of expeditions from the very first one prepared by Don Bosco himself for November 11, 1875. On that occasion, the first ten Salesian missionaries were sent to Argentina: six young priests and four Salesian brothers. Those first ones have been followed by about 11,000 Salesians and 2,500 Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, 2,000 of them Italian FMAs who left Europe for the world.
