Rome, Italy - June 28, 2019 - Friday, June 28, 2019, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the procession of the statue of the Sacred Heart took place on the main streets of the city of Rome. Accompanying her was Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi, Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education and titular cardinal of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, who blessed the faithful and places close to the basilica built by Don Bosco himself.
(ANS - Rome) - Under the painting of the Sacred Heart, in the center of the Basilica built by Don Bosco in its honor in Rome, there is a double portrait. The first is dedicated to St. Francis de Sales, the second to St. Marguerite-Marie Alacoque, from whom devotion to the Sacred Heart began, after the revelations she received from December 1673. Francis de Sales had founded with Saint Jeanne-Françoise de Chantal the Order of the Visitation, to which Marguerite-Marie Alacoque belonged. It is not just a question of historical references.
Rome, Italy - 17 August 1879 - On the mandate of the Holy Father Leo XIII, Don Bosco took on the task of having a church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus built on the Esquiline Hill in Rome, where a new neighbourhood was being built at the time. The laying of the first stone took place in solemn form on 17 August 1879.
Hawassa, Ethiopia - 11 August 2018 - After almost a year of Salesian presence in the Vicariate of Hawassa, the Salesian chapel dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was opened to the public. The opening ceremony took place in the presence of many religious, priests and hundreds of lay people. During the homily, Msgr. Roberto Bergamaschi, SDB, expressed his great satisfaction in having a Salesian community in the vicariate and he expressed the hope that it could be a stimulus to the pastoral activities of the region.
Rome, Italy - On April 5, 1880, Pope Leo XIII invited Don Bosco to take the initiative to build a church in honor of the "Sacred Heart of Jesus", specifying that he had no funds to offer him. The Piedmontese priest accepted on one condition: expanding the work to include "a large hostel, where poor young people, extremely numerous, especially in this very neighborhood, can be housed, and started off in schools for the arts and crafts." (Giovanni Battista Lemoyne, "John Bosco, the Life of the Venerable Servant of God", vol. 2). The building cost the elderly Don Bosco an incredible effort, but on May 14, 1887, it was consecrated. The Saint of Young People celebrated Mass there for the last time on May 16, 1887, during which he "often wept on contemplating his life." In 1921, Pope Benedict XV declared the temple of the "Sacred Heart of Jesus" as Minor Basilica.

150th Missionary Expedition, "If it's not outgoing, it's not Church"
In 1875, Don Bosco gathered around him a group of ten young people who were about to cross the Atlantic, a journey that for some would be without return. It was 4.00 pm, the shrine of Mary Help of Christians was full of people. At the foot of the image of Mary Help of Christians, Don Bosco greeted the young people soon departing with tears. He gave everyone a gift, a leaflet with "twenty special memories", memories of a father to those about to leave before the final embrace, writes Fr Ceria, symbol of his deep affection.

RMG – Don Bosco and door-to-door waste collection
(ANS - Rome) - Who'd have thought? Don Bosco, a proto-ecologist? Don Bosco, pioneer of home waste collection 140 years ago? Seems so, according to at least one of the letters recovered in recent years and which will be included in the IX volume of the correspondence being prepared: a letter of 1885, which in the Turin of the time anticipates and, obviously in its own way, "solved" one of the great problems that today's society has to deal with, namely waste, over-consumption and throwaway goods.
