(ANS - Nkhotakota) - On the night between 10 and 11 December 2015, the Salesian parish in Nkhotakota, in the Vice-Province of Zambia-Malawi-Zimbabwe-Namibia, was hit by a rain storm that caused damage and destruction to some buildings, especially in the school. The students were forced to do lessons outdoors, but with the arrival of the rainy season that could not continue. Thanks to the Salesian Missionary Centre in Warsaw (PLE), funds were raised to restore the school.

(ANS – Cotonou) – The Social Communication Provincial Delegates for the Africa-Madagascar Region had just concluded its 5 day meeting and marked the start of renewed cycle of collaboration, connection, and sharing of  information. Encouragement from the ATE Provincial, Fr Miguel Angel Nguema, has been a great help for the majority of SC Delegates who have recently been appointed and were attrending this biennial meeting for the first time.

(ANS – Port-au-Prince) – The story is almost the same with the poor. Haiti is the country that “cannot recover”: an assertion that sounds as a persecution for this country, the poorest of the continent. After the earthquake that struck the country six years ago, Haiti “remains stuck in conditions of poverty and has not managed to overcome its political instability, and even less the economic one”. Fr. Jean Paul Mesidor, Superior of the Salesians of Haiti, knows that the problem of poverty is not due to lack of material things, but rather to lack of formation, education and to lack of the prospect of a better future for the youth.

  • Ecuador - Exchanges teaching Math to studying Psychology, thanks to passion for working with youth: the "Chilean"

(ANS - Quito) - After serving for nine months as a volunteer missionary in the Salesian project "Chicos de la Calle", 26-year-old Gonzalo Peralta returned to his native country, Chile, with a decision: not to continue the post-graduate program in Mathematics he had in mind, but follow a Master's degree in Psychology in work with young people. This choice has materialized because of his recent experience with the children and young people of the Educational Unit of San Patricio (UESPA) and of the "Mi Caleta" reception center, based in Quito.

  • Subjectivity, networks and forms of connection

Young people today live in a globalized world, a network of interconnections and relationships. Goods, information, electronic images, songs, entertainment and fads spread almost instantly throughout the planet. Social networks have become their natural habitat and it is through them that the surrounding world is known. The Salesian Ariel Fresia presents an original point of view on the understanding of these hyperconnected natives.

SPECIAL REPORTS

  • Spain - Vocational animation, a dynamism that does not stop

(ANS - Seville) - The vocational project "Ven y verás" (Come and See), the guiding thread of the last 12 months of the Salesian Province of "Spain-Mary Help of Christians", and which aims to focus Salesian Youth Ministry in this perspective, continues to be active and to encourage the development of a life project among young people. This commitment, which proceeds together with the efforts of the whole Church and of the Salesian Congregation, also in the light of the seminary on vocational animation held in Sanlúcar la Mayor (Seville), opens the way for the recipients of Salesian action to find their way to be Christians and to be accompanied towards discovering their specific vocation: lay, marriage, priesthood or consecrated life.

MESSAGES OF THE RECTOR MAJOR

  • FULL LIVES

I believe that this is what we have most at heart, dear readers – to feel that we are living a life that is full.  It seems that this is a very human aspiration.  It is with this thought that I must tell you that I have come to know in my life many persons who live and have lived full lives.  I propose to follow this path myself.
