(ANS - Rome) - In reference to the situation of Father Tom Uzhunnalil, kidnapped on 4 March last in Aden, Yemen, it is confirmed that at the moment there is no further news than what has already been said.
(ANS - Madrid) – The anthem for the meetings of Easter 2016 is "Betting on tenderness". It reminds us how important it is that "we try to not let us steal the strength of the mission". The hymn says: "Bet on tenderness, forgiveness, and love, of freedom. Bet on love. Let us not steal faith, love and hope. Bet on tenderness, never on fear, never on selfishness, never. Bet on love." Faced with a society that has lost the sense of goodness, gentleness, compassion, we must live with tenderness. The Easter encounter thus becomes a courageous evangelizing proposal in a world that has other values.
(ANS - Manzini) - Swaziland is a country nestled between South Africa and Mozambique, with the highest rate in the world infected with HIV and 69,000 AIDS patients in a million inhabitants. According to the annual report of the United Nations, it is considered "the least healthy country in the world." And in this little portion of the world, the Salesians continue their mission to put into practice the message of Christ.
Ecuador - Nader Torena, volunteer: "I met Jesus in my work with children and youth"
(ANS - Esmeraldas) - During his year of international volunteering in Ecuador, the young Uruguayan Nader Torena worked as a teacher and catechist but, above all, he became a friend of the hundreds of children and young people he worked with on a daily basis in the city of Esmeraldas. There he could feel the living presence of Jesus and understand why God had sent him to that location.
Communicating in the network: a language to learn again
It is a fact that digital communication is a challenge for the Church. In the last Synod of Bishops, the network is spoken of as a space of evangelization, like a continent to explore, like a new place to live. The old "information highways" have now become true "constellations of content", with about 1,400 million websites on the network and their number grows exponentially, while every day new virtual communities of meetings and discussions arise according to the different tastes and needs of people.
Belgium - Salesians playing an active role in advocating for Migrants and Refugees
(ANS – Brussels) – In the framework of the Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, taking place in Marrakech, Morocco, on 10 and 11 December 2018, there have been numerous conferences and activities wherein Salesian organisations have played an active role.
Peru - Lessons left by Fr Ugo de Censi
(ANS - Lima) - We cannot but be more grateful and, at the same time, saddened by the departure of Fr Ugo de Censi, who leaves us a bit orphans. But we know that he is in the Oratory of Heaven, next to Don Bosco, illuminated by the luminous face of that God he so desired.
MESSAGES OF THE RECTOR MAJOR
GOOD NEWS STILL EXISTS!
I am writing to you, my dear friends, just a few hours after having bestowed the missionary cross on a group of ten Daughters of Mary Help of Christians and twenty-five Salesians of Don Bosco who will leave in this 149th missionary expedition. We count the number of expeditions from the very first one prepared by Don Bosco himself for November 11, 1875. On that occasion, the first ten Salesian missionaries were sent to Argentina: six young priests and four Salesian brothers. Those first ones have been followed by about 11,000 Salesians and 2,500 Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, 2,000 of them Italian FMAs who left Europe for the world.
