(ANS - Rome) - During the winter plenary session of the General Council the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr Manuel Jiménez Castro, Superior of the New Vice-Province of Africa Congo Congo (ACC) for the six years 2017-2023.

(ANS - Rome) - On 24 December last a video was posted on YouTube in which Fr Tom Uzhunnalil appears, the Indian Salesian priest, missionary in Yemen, who was kidnapped on 4 March 2016 in Aden. From the images on the video the physical and mental state of health of the Salesian appear broken, nevertheless the video is primarily evidence that Fr Tom is alive.

(ANS - Yangon) - It is time for all the Burmese people to be united so that 2017 may become "really the Year of Peace". This is what the Salesian Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, wrote in a statement released a few days before Christmas recalling how war and violence still mark the country.

    (ANS - Nairobi) - The participants in the Team Visit to the Africa-Madagascar Region spent the second day of work, yesterday, 21 February, reflecting on the question posed by the General Councilor for Formation, Fr. Ivo Coelho, in the homily of the Morning Eucharist: "How can we be credible signs of God's love for the young?"

  • Spain - Don Bosco's Preventive System relives in the film "Wonder"

    (ANS - Madrid) - The film "Wonder", the story of little Auggie Pullman, a child with a facial deformation who faces the challenge of attending a public school for the first time, arrived in cinemas this past December.

    During the film, which deals with the delicate issue of scholastic bullying, there is a clear resemblance to the Preventive System of Don Bosco and these ten sentences of the founder of the Salesians are proof of this.
