(ANS - Rome) - The Salesian Youth Movement in Europe has chosen its logo, but has not yet its own official anthem, that is, a song that can be sung and played at every official meeting of SYM Europe, but also in meetings of national and local groups. For this "Small Team SYM Europe", invites everyone to participate in a music contest for the official anthem of SYM Europe.
(ANS - Turin) - "I want to draw attention to the situation of underage migrants, especially those who are on their own, calling on all to take care of young people who are helpless three times over - because they are underage, because they are foreigners and because they are defenceless. For various reasons they are forced to live far from their homeland and separated from their family." This is one of the central passages of the Message issued by the Pope for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2017. In full harmony with the words of the Pope, the Salesians in Turin have inaugurated a new community reception centre for unaccompanied foreign minors.
(ANS – Bangalore) – Bangalore Christian Community of Meghalaya (BCCM), an innovative Migrant Ministry in Bangalore, celebrated its tenth anniversary on 2 October 2016 at Don Bosco Skill Mission, Bangalore. About 230 young boys and girls from the state of Meghalaya, belonging mainly to the three tribes - Khasi, Jaintia and Garos - thronged the Salesian campus for the decennial celebration of the BCCM.
Myanmar - Don Bosco in the country: yesterday, today and tomorrow
(ANS - Anisakan) - From November 27 to 30, Pope Francis will be on an apostolic voyage to Myanmar and, in view of this important event, we have asked a few questions to Fr Bosco Zeya Aung, Provincial Vicar and Delegate for Formation in Myanmar.
THE DARK FACE OF INTERNET
If we wanted to find a metaphor to fully describe the revolution caused to society since the introduction and use of the Internet, we could certainly compare this phenomenon to the discovery of a new planet, a new continent, a territory continuously being explored that we cannot manage to fully fathom, one we repeatedly marvel at, that surprises us with ever-new aspects and unexpressed potential.
Italy - Msgr. Fagnano: seminar and book dedicated to him
(ANS - Rome) – Definitely a prominent figure, Msgr Giuseppe Fagnano (Rocchetta Tanaro 1844 – Santiago del Cile 1916), member of the first Salesian Missionary Expedition (1875), the first Salesian director in Patagonia (1880), the first Salesian to land in the Tierra del Fuego (1886), the first and only Apostolic Prefect of Southern Patagonia, the Malvine Islands and the thousands of islands beyond the Magellan Strait (1883). To such a multifaceted character, the Faculty of Theology of the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) and the Salesian Historical Institute (ISS) devoted an afternoon of study this past November 9.
Italy - Salesians, Sports and Soccer: Success Stories
(ANS - Ferrara) - "Since the Oratory was the first of Don Bosco's initiatives, and the kind of initiative on which all the others are modeled, this combination of "catechesis and play" has been passed on to almost all the Salesian works. There is not even one Salesian school that does not, at least as a complementary activity, have recreational and sporting activities." Thus wrote Fr Juan E. Vecchi, VIII Successor of Don Bosco, in describing the Salesian's inherent attention to the world of sports. Attention from which sports teams, minor league and Serie A teams, amateur and pro players, emerged and came into being.
MESSAGES OF THE RECTOR MAJOR
ONE MISSIONARY RETURNS, ANOTHER 34 LEAVE FOR THE MISSIONS
I chose this enigmatic title for my greeting this month because I want to make reference to one Salesian who spent 18 months in captivity and another 34 SDBs and FMAs who will leave for the missions in various parts of the world. Ever since the very first one on November 11, 1875, there have been 148 missionary expeditions for our Salesian Family. These evoke the profound feeling that grace is at work.
