The “Generala” was a prison for minors in Turin, which at Don Bosco's time had about 200 boys inside, aged between 12 and 18.

On 5 April 1846 Don Bosco arrived in Valdocco for the first time. It was Palm Sunday and once he arrived he rented the Pinardi shed.
