San Salvador, El Salvador - October 2022 - On October 29, the liturgical memorial of Blessed Michael Rua, the Salesian community of Mary Help of Christians Parish celebrated in a special way the 125th anniversary of Salesian presence in Central America. A solemn Eucharist was celebrated which was attended by many faithful, young people, various members of the Salesian Family, and other parish groups. The Mass was accompanied by a relic of Don Rua placed in one of the side altars. A typical dinner was then shared with those present in the parish gardens, along with an artistic performance by some of the youth of the Salesian Youth Movement, who depicted the construction of the temple, from the laying of the foundation stone to its consecration. The event concluded with the dancing of the jubilee hymn, words of thanks from the parish priest, Fr. Manuel Solano, and a blessing from Fr. Francisco Rodríguez.
Tainan, Taiwan - October 2022 - Among the more than 1,000 students at the "Tainan Salesian Technical School," only five are Catholic and are accompanied by Salesian catechists. A few days after the canonization of St. Artemide Zatti, these young people took part in a meeting to learn more about the figure of the new Salesian coadjutor saint and be inspired by him in their faith journey as members of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM). The meeting was led by the head of the school's Salesian Youth Group, Augustin Zhang, who urged the students to model themselves after St. Artemide Zatti by setting three goals: to always be joyful and cheerful, to do one's duty well, and to take care of one's companions.
Bogotá, Colombia - October 2022 - On October 15, the activities related to the 50th anniversary of the "Fundación Servicio Juvenil" (Youth Service Foundation), a presence of the Salesian Province "San Pedro Claver" of Bogotá (COB), concluded. During the year of celebration, the Salesian work carried out, in coordination with the Salesian University Foundation on Popular Education, three panel discussions on: educating to serve and transform; the pedagogical experience of Fr. Javier De Nicoló; and the validity of Don Bosco's Preventive System. It also developed three artistic events that aimed to highlight the memory and legacy of its founder, Fr. Javier De Nicoló, SDB. Over the past 50 years, the Foundation has served thousands of children at risk or about to fall into a street situation throughout Colombia, offering them humanitarian assistance and comprehensive education so they can develop worthy, happy, and transformative life plans. During the closing act of its 50th anniversary, there was the presentation of recognition to benefactors, educators, and collaborators who have faithfully served the work "Fundación Servicio Juvenil," on behalf of all the people who have been part of its history. There was no shortage of artistic interventions, toasts, the presentation of the Statue in tribute to Javier De Nicoló and Dorita De Nicoló, lunch, and the customary oratorian celebration that closed in beauty a very meaningful day for this Salesian work that continues to work for the most vulnerable and least protected in the country.
Zhytomyr, Ukraine - November 2022 - Every year, on All Saints' Day, the Salesian school "Vsevit" in Zhytomyr introduces students to the lives of the saints. This year, local priests were invited to focus the day on the Sermon on the Mount, adapting it to children, with a dialogue open to their questions. There was also a time of prayer for peace in Ukraine through the intercession of all the Saints. Gifts collected by school families were then distributed to the needy.
