Cuiabá, Brazil - October 2022 - Saturday, October 15 was a day of celebration for the children of many Salesian presences throughout Brazil. In Cuiabá (MT) it was no different. More than 500 children from poor neighborhoods on the outskirts of the Mato Grosso capital received gifts, entertainment, and a snack as part of the already traditional service offered by the various teams at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, while the children's parents also received food baskets collected by the Shrine's parishioners. According to Shrine coordinator Fr. Danilo Guedes, the intention is to combine food with devotion to Our Lady Help of Christians, one of the strongest signs of the Salesian charism. "We are enhancing and giving continuity to the assistance and support to families that the Shrine already offers, but we want to give a more continuous orientation and, in addition to material bread, we also want to bring Jesus and Mary Help of Christians. That is why it is called 'Project Valdocco'." To make this initiative viable, the Shrine has carried out a campaign to collect food, toys, and financial resources among Catholics throughout the city.
