Dili, Timor-Leste - September 2022 - The Salesian Youth Movement in the TLS Vice-Province resumes its gathering after two years of interruption due to Covid-19 and its restrictions. Fr. Nelson Gonçalves, SDB as the Delegate of the Youth Ministry in the Vice-Province organizes this event together with the Delegate of the Youth Ministry of the FMA in the person of Sr. Júlia Marçal, FMA with the full support of the Salesians, FMA and all the Salesian Family in the Vice-Province. The young people from different Salesian communities are enthusiastic about this event as they are going to have human and spiritual formation to equip their craving for a future full of hope.
Melbourne, Australia, 13 September 2022 -- Salesian Missions Australia has begun a Province wide campaign to support the very important work of our teachers in Samoa. One of the key challenges for our schools and teachers in Samoa is the lack of resources to assist them in educating students. For this reason, Salesian Missions Australia has launched the campaign to “Sponsor a teacher, Educate a Nation”. Funds from this campaign will provide our incredible schools in Samoa with the resources, appropriate materials and training that is required and will give our young people in Samoa the best possible chance for success.
Cairo, Egypt – September 2022 - The Council of the World Confederation of Past Pupils of Don Bosco met in Cairo, Egypt between the 8th and the 11th September. This was the first in person meeting following COVID which was held in the Istituto Salesiano Don Bosco. During the Executive Council, various meetings were planned for next year to continue the animation and implementation of the Strategic Plan which was launched last June.
During their visit to Cairo, the President Mr Bryan Magro, the Secretary General Mr Peter Kovac, and the SDB Delegate Bro Dominic Nam had the opportunity to address over 250 students who are in their last year's in the school. They also met with the young people who attend the Oratory in Cairo. During the meetings with young people, the Council explained the purpose behind the past pupils and friends of Don Bosco organization highlighting the importance of the mission and expression of solidarity with young people in the Salesian way. In Egypt, the past pupils have a local group in the Salesian School in Alexandra. This visit also served as an animation to revive the past pupils association in Cairo in preparation for the centenary anniversary of the Istituto Salesiano Don Bosco in 2026.
Lima, Peru - September 2022 - From September 11 to 17, the Salesians of Peru celebrated their Provincial Chapter at the Salesian Retreat House "Tabor." It was a time of listening and discernment, in which 32 Salesian chapter members and 12 lay people from the different areas of the province renewed their commitment and fidelity to the Salesian mission. "This Chapter was lived with great hope, taking on the new challenges of these times. We want to embrace the 28th General Chapter, which in its eight priorities marks a path for us," said Fr. Manuel Cayo, Superior of the PER Province. Likewise, as committed Salesians, we are working on the four proposals that came out of the visit of Fr. Hugo Orozco, Councilor for the Inter-American Region:
- Instilling a vocational culture among the Salesians of Peru.
- How to strengthen our joint mission with the laity.
- How to strengthen our quality in our fraternal relationships.
- To continue walking in the redesign of our mission.
In addition to all this, the following themes and processes were synodically elaborated:
- Application and projection of the 28th General Chapter.
- Presentation of the Provincial Organic Project at the end of its updating process.
- Presentation of the Provincial Pastoral Educational Project (2022-2027) at the end of its updating process.
- Deepening and definition of the Animation and Governance Plan (2022-2027), which includes the reconfiguration of the Salesian presence in Peru.
