RMG – The Rector Major to visit Belarus

(ANS – Rome) – The Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime SDB, will visit Belarus from 8 to 11 July. During his visit, the Rector wants first and foremost to meet and get acquainted with his Salesian Confreres from Belarus, to talk to them, hear the joys and concerns they meet in the implementation of the Salesian charism in Belarus and, of course, give some fatherly advice and support to his spiritual sons. Fr Ángel will also have an opportunity to get acquainted with the Salesian communities working in Belarus.

Later tomorrow morning, 8 July, the Rector Major is scheduled to meet Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusewicz, Metropolitan of Minsk-Mohilev, and auxiliary bishop Aliaksandr Yasheuski, SDB For the Rector Major the Salesian Family was, is, and always will be very important. Accordingly, the programme of the Rector Major’s visit includes a meeting with the representatives of the Salesian Family in Belarus, when they will have the opportunity to present their communities and share with the Rector Major their joys and successes in educational and pastoral work.


The culmination of the Rector Major’s visit will be the celebration of Unity Day in Minsk, Belarus, on 10 July. Fr Ángel Fernández Artime SDB will preside at Mass during which he will address a pastoral word to the Salesian Family in Belarus.

The traditional celebration of the Salesian Family unity programme includes a feast for the children and youth with fun and games. At the end of the event there will be an opportunity for the Rector Major to meet young people and others. The meeting will be informal and participants will be able to raise issues with the Rector Major, especially those relating to education in today's world and the role of the Salesian.
