Central America – The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, begins his visit to Central America

26 August 2016

(ANS Panama) - In mid-afternoon the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, arrived at the airport of Tocumen to start his visit to the Province of Central America. Fr A.F. Artime will meet with the Salesians, the Salesian Family and young people in five countries: Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and finally "El Salvador" in a matter of thirteen days.

The Salesians have two works in Panama - the Don Bosco Technical Institute and the Basilica of Don Bosco. The Panamanian people are known for their deep devotion to Don Bosco. In the Church’s liturgical calendar the religious celebration of the feast of Don Bosco assumes massive importance every year. This year and from now on, one of the famous relics that went all round the Salesian world before the bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco will be venerated in the Basilica.

On 26 and 27 August the Rector Major will meet with different groups of the Salesian Family. He is accompanied by his secretary Fr Horacio López. Six countries of Central America, with 24 Salesian houses and 174 Salesian confreres, make up the Province of the Divine Saviour of the world.
