CHINA - Growing together as a Salesian Family

26 August 2016

(ANS - Hong Kong) - The Chinese province, as the mother province of the East Asia-Oceania region, shares many of the traditions of Salesian life and mission. One outstanding example is the synergy that exists in the Salesian Family. Every year there are two particular moments - at the August meeting of the Provincial Advisory Council and in January at the joint study session on the Strenna of the Rector Major.

This year on Sunday 21 August, 35 members belonging to seven different groups of the Salesian Family gathered at Tang King Po School in Hong Kong. They included the Salesians of Don Bosco, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Salesian Cooperators, the Association of Mary Help of Christians, Past Pupils and Don Bosco Volunteers.

Fr Lanfranco Fedrigotti, Superior of the Province of China, and his Vicar, Fr Andrew Fing, were present for the whole meeting lasting four hours. Two important issues were addressed - the Council's expectations of the Salesian Family, and the role of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) in relation to the other groups. To ensure continuity in the work, the minutes of various meetings on the same two topics in 2009 were distributed to the participants.

Many participants from Hong Kong and Macao shared their commitment on the challenges facing each group, and the possibility of shared formation and mission for the young.

The meeting concluded with Vespers in the Church of Mary Help of Christians in Tang King Po School, where the casket of Don Bosco for the East Asia-Oceania region is currently present.
