Honduras - Fr Á.F. Artime to young people: "you are in the house where you belong”

05 September 2016

(ANS - Tegucigalpa) – On 1 September the Rector Major began his visit to Honduras. His first event was a meeting with the confreres, a meeting which, like those in other countries of the Province of Central America (CAM), gave him an opportunity to speak about the Congregation, highlighting strengths and pointing out risks that could take us away from our charismatic identity.

The meeting was followed by lunch with the archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Salesian Cardinal Óscar Andrés Rodríguez Maradiaga, his auxiliary, Bishop Juan José Pineda, Bishop Luis Santos, SDB, retired bishop of Santa Rosa de Copán, and all the Salesians.

Then, in the afternoon the Rector Major met the Salesian Family and emphasized the need to grow in the charism and the importance of not complaining. He reminded all that his dream is of a Salesian Family ever more authentic and one which has as its priority the young people of the world. The day ended with the celebration of the Eucharist.

On Friday the Rector Major met the students of Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre, a centre that houses 380 boys and girls aged between 15 and 22, with scarce economic resources and opportunities of human and Christian growth, where they receive technical skills techniques and the formation in values.

Fr Á.F.Artime was moved as he listened to some testimonies of social and human rehabilitation by the students of the centre and he was pleased to note that many of the teachers are past pupils. "You are in the house where you belong" ... "No young person is considered one too many," he told the young people, encouraging them to discover the value of their lives and to be proud of the progress made through personal commitment. The morning finished with an artistic academy and a moment of prayer for the Rector Major.

In the afternoon the Rector Major met the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement in the parish of Mary Help of Christians which is located in a vulnerable slum area in the twin city of Comayagüela.

On the morning of Saturday 3 September, Fr Á.F. Artime travelled by plane to San Salvador, capital of El Salvador, where he greeted and encouraged the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement in the country, at the house dedicated to Don Rua. Yesterday, Sunday, he also met the Salesian Family.
