RMG - Visit of the Rector Major to the ZMB Vice-Province

(ANS - Rome) - Just a few days after his return to the Generalate from Central America, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major, is preparing to leave for a new intercontinental journey. This time it will include the Salesians, the Salesian Family and youth of the Vice-Province of Zambia-Zimbabwe-Malawi-Namibia.

Accompanied by his secretary, Fr Horacio López, the Rector Major will land at midday tomorrow 15 September in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. Fr Á.F. Artime will remain in the country until the morning of Sunday 18 October. He will meet the Council of the Vice-Province, young people and members of the Salesian Family. On Saturday he will preside at the Eucharist during which the parish entrusted to the Salesians will be dedicated to Mary Help of Christians. He will receive the promises of twenty people who will make a formal commitment as Salesian Cooperators.

His arrival in Lusaka, capital of Zambia, will take place in the early afternoon on Sunday. Fr Á.F. Artime will be welcomed by the leaders of the local Salesian Family and will have a Police Escort to the Provincial House. Then, in the afternoon, he will bless the new novitiate building.

On Monday the main events will be a meeting with the Novices and their formation guides and a visit to the "City of Hope" run by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. It is a centre for orphans and young people at risk.

The following day he is scheduled to visit the Salesian work at Bauleni, Lusaka and to meet with the Salesian Family.

After a final meeting with the confreres of the Vice-Province, Fr Á.F. Artime will return by plane to Rome on Wednesday 21 September.
