RMG - The Rector Major’s Visit to Mongolia and Myanmar

(ANS - Rome) - This afternoon, 20 October, the Rector Major leaves for another of his visits to the confreres, this time in Asia. For the next few days, until Saturday 29 October, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime will spend time with the Salesians and Salesian Family in Mongolia and Myanmar, listening to them and encouraging them.

The first leg of the trip will actually take him to South Korea where the Rector Major will have a brief stopover tomorrow and time for a friendly and fatherly encounter with the Salesians in the capital, Seoul.

On Saturday afternoon he will arrive in Mongolia accompanied by his secretary, Fr Horacio López.  They will be met at the airport in Ulaanbaatar by local representatives of the Salesian Family. The next day they will reach Darkhan, meet local people and celebrate Mass with them in the parish dedicated to Mary Help of Christians. This will be followed by a meeting with the Salesians.  On Monday 24 October they will return to Ulaanbaatar where the Rector Major will bless the new Salesian Centre and meet the young people. They will then go to the new mission station at Shovoo for a meeting with the local bishop.

Fr Á.F. Artime will land on Burmese soil on Thursday afternoon but the main day of his visit to the Vice-Province of Myanmar will be Friday 28 October when the Tenth Successor of Don Bosco will preside at Mass for the whole Salesian Family. He will meet all the Salesians in Myanmar as well as youth groups and Past Pupils and the Council of the Vice-Province.

Before leaving on the Saturday, Fr Á.F. Artime will have time to bless a new chapel at the Salesian House in Mandalay.
