Italy - Salesian House damaged by an earthquake.

28 October 2016

(ANS - Ussita) - The earthquake that hit central Italy on the evening of 26 October miraculously caused no direct casualties among the population, but it has led to the collapse of buildings and widespread damage in the areas affected. One building seriously damaged was the Salesian house in the mountains which is located in Calcara of Ussita, one of the towns in the district of Ussita, the epicentre of the tremors.

The house had already suffered some damage during the earthquake in August

Every year, especially in summer, the house welcomes hundreds of children and young people. It is now virtually unusable and it is not possible to say how long it will remain closed.

Some of the camping facilities near the house in Colorito have also suffered damage.

Now they await the inspection visits of the Fire Brigade for a first assessment of damage to the buildings, and then they will know how long they will be out of use.

Later they will assess the financial cost of the damage, and eventually decisions will have to be made regarding the future.

The situation in the affected regions is still causing anxiety. Thousands of families cannot return to their homes, production activities are paralyzed, while the earth is still shaking and the extent of the damage is only beginning to be measured.
