(ANS - Cape Town) - "Happy in time and eternity." This was the desire of Don Bosco fo his boys. Even today, all over the world his Salesians are doing everything to ensure their students, together with human and spiritual formation, receive the skills needed to achieve a good job and a decent life. It is in this framework that the Don Bosco Salesian Institute in Cape Town has signed a memorandum of understanding with the famous car brand Porsche and the Car Import Company "LSM Distributors", for the formation and work-training of young people in difficulty.

Thanks to this agreement, from the middle of 2017, Porsche will offer about 75 of them a chance to participate in a training programme for 2 or 3 years as mechanics at the new Training and Recruiting Centre located in the country. This is intended to open up new professional opportunities not only in Porsche, but also in other brands of the Volkswagen Group.

There will be three possible routes, based on the specific qualifications of the individual candidates: youth already sufficiently qualified will be given access directly to the two-year training programme; those in possession of fewer skills can attend a 6-8 week course at the Institute for Salesian youth projects; while up to 50 candidates a year, even if they have no qualifications, can still complete a preparatory course of one year duration.

The training programme is specifically designed to cover a broad spectrum of activities and so enable more employment opportunities for young people. It is part of a list of initiatives carried out in recent years by the automaker, from a similar initiative launched in Manila in the Philippines in 2008, which allowed less fortunate young people to find employment in the automotive sector. In 2015 Volkswagen and Audi also took part in this programme and, in collaboration with the Don Bosco Mondo organization, more than 120 young Filipinos each year have received special training for a job in the post-sales sector of the three companies.
