Argentina – “A Solidarity Marathon” through the streets of Buenos Aires, "Run for Children"

07 December 2016

(ANS - Buenos Aires) - A mega-sporting event on behalf of “Opera Don Bosco" is to be held tomorrow, 8th December, at Los Bosques de Palermo, Buenos Aires, on the occasion of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the anniversary of the symbolic birth Salesian oratory.

For the Salesians, holding a marathon is much more than the mere organization of an event to raise money for charitable initiatives. Fr. Facundo Arriola SDB, claims that “it is more an invitation to become aware of the harsh reality in which many adolescents and young people live. It is an invitation to run and to get going for the life of each of them, to activate the body, the mind and the heart. Running a marathon involves setting a goal and what is proposed in this marathon is to reach out to adolescents and young people with a heart and an attitude that give dignity. Running this marathon is to run with the others: our invitation is to join forces and create a synergy for the benefit of young people. Running a marathon involves a call to commitment, care for oneself and respect for one’s body. It is the choice of opting to be concerned about the lives of the most vulnerable".

Through the event "Buenos Aires runs for young people" one wants to say to the citizens: "Wake up Buenos Aires, open your eyes", "Be aflame, Buenos Aires, Come on ...", "Stop the indifference, come together in solidarity...”

"Buenos Aires runs for young people" is a proposal to be concerned about and to defend life.
