RMG - Appointment of the new Provincial of Thailand )

(ANS - Rome) - During the winter plenary session of the General Council the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr John Bosco Thepharat new Superior of the Province of St Paul, Thailand, for the six years 2017-2023.

Fr Thepharat was born 16 November 1951 in Bangkok, Thailand. He entered the Salesian novitiate at Canlunbang in 1970, made his perpetual profession on 22 March 1978 in Hua Hin and was ordained priest in Bangkok on 6 June 1982.

He was member of the House Council and later Rector of the "Sarasit" work of Banpong, in the years between 1991 and 2001. Since 2011 he was Rector and Parish Priest at the Salesian House of Hua Hin.

He was Provincial Councillor from 1996 to 2001 and has already held the post of Provincial in Thailand from 2005 to 2011.

The installation ceremony will take place in Bangkok, at the Provincial House, on 2 February 2017.
