Peru – Torrential Rains in Chosica: the Salesians prepare Help Groups

18 January 2017

(ANS – Chosica) – Chosica is a city in Peru located at half an hour’s drive from the Capital, Lima. But if Lima is typically known for its depressing climate and cloudy sky, Chosica on the contrary is known as “the beautiful villa of the Sun” for its sunny climate throughout the year. Nevertheless, this year torrential rains flooded many houses and some rooms of the Salesian parish dedicated to “St. John Bosco”, one of the Salesians presences in the city, together with the “Don Bosco home” for spiritual retreats, the old Salesian Novitiate and the “Tabor” Hospitality Centre.

After the floods in Chosica, the youth of SYM and the parishioners of the Salesian parish gathered together to help clean the areas invaded by the water on Sunday January 15th.

For this reason, through local social networks a message was spread on that day among the faithful of the parish: “We hereby inform that for safety reasons the Mass will not be celebrated in the parish. We ask all those who live far from the parish to stay home. Those who are close to the parish, if they can, are requested to come and help remove the water from some rooms and from the playground of the parish”.

Young people and neighbours of the parish continue to clean their houses from mud; the youngsters and many faithful have also begun to be organized to bring help to the stricken and needy families of the area.
