(ANS - Addis Ababa) - In the Biographical Memoirs it is said that in 1885 Don Bosco dreamed of the expansion of the Salesian Congregation in Africa and saw himself next to an angel who spoke of the great blessings that would come to that continent. (MB Vol. XVII, 645). It is a dream that is renewed today, with the presence of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, on African soil.

On Wednesday 10 February, the Rector Major visited Gambella, a missionary community that has an oratory, a hostel and a large youth centre. There he met the Salesians and lay people who work at the centre and celebrated the Eucharist with them. This morning Thursday 11 February, he moves to the north of the country, where he will remain until Friday evening, visiting the three Salesian communities of Adwa, Adigrat and Makallè.

These works are located in a multi-ethnic and multi-religious environment, with a strong presence of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, rooted in the tradition of the people since the origins of Christianity. The environment is characterized by a deep tolerance and the Salesians are highly appreciated in all areas of civil and religious life for their great work of educating young people. On the occasion of the visit of the Rector Major, the authorities of several cities where the Salesians are working thanked Fr Á.F. Artime for the work done by the Sons of Don Bosco.

On Friday the Rector Major will meet with the young people in formation at the Salesian community of the Blessed Michael Gebre post-novitiate in Adigrat. On Saturday he will return to the headquarters of the Vice-Province in Addis Ababa, for the last leg of his trip to Ethiopia.
